Jerry Kopecky - Class Of 1953 VIEW PROFILE

Jerome "Jerry" F. Kopecky,

Jerry, age 84, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Care-Age of Brookfield. He was born July 1, 1935 in Milwaukee to Gina (Engelien) and Jerome H. Kopecky.

He was a graduate of Milwaukee Washington High School, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Jerry spent his career in the Milwaukee Public Schools. He was a teacher and wrestling coach at Riverside and Marshall High Schools. He served as the principal at South Division and Pulaski.

During his tenure as a principal he was a member and past-president of the Board of Control of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. He was a member of the George Martin Wrestling Hall of Fame and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Hall of Fame. In 2005 Jerry received the Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award as a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

St. John's Lutheran Church in Brookfield was an important part of his life where he was a charter member. In retirement Jerry was a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House - Milwaukee.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann (Farwell), daughter Elizabeth Yenerich, sons Robert (Jill) and Stephen (Connie) and grandchildren Phoebe Nygren, Ross Yenerich, Tess, Jack and Cale Kopecky and Samuel and Sydney Kopecky. Jerry is also survived by brother-in-law John (Carmen) Farwell. He is further survived by niece Kristin Farwell (David Melek) and by cousins, and by other relatives and friends.
