Dr. Fabian R. Derse - Class Of 1918

Martin J Biller III (1971)

Dr. Derse was my Grandfather.  He graduated in '18 and I in '71.  He was an MD, one of the last of the general practicioners.  He did everything from surgery to delivering babies.  In those days, doctors still made house calls.  He provided free health care for the nuns and priests at St. John de Nepomuc Parish where I attended grade school.

He was a very busy man but always had time for his grandkids.  And when we got sick, Grandpa would show up with his black grip and quite often, a shot of antibiotic to cure the infection in a hurry.  Grandpa died in 1987, just before his 88th birthday.  I'll never forget him.  I have his Washington High School class ring - the class of 1918.
