Mark Doornbosch - Class Of 1975

Mark Anthony Doornbosch of Beaufort, SC, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, leaving behind a trail of guitar strings and grateful hearts.

Born in Waukesha, WI on January 25, 1957, he was the fifth of seven siblings in a military family. Life on the move eventually led them to Milwaukee, WI, where they planted roots and, most importantly, where he met and married his high school sweetheart and soulmate Liz — a love story for the ages. They married in 1978, had two children, Lisa and Marcus, and raised their family in Wisconsin, Richmond, Virginia, and Tampa, Florida. They moved to Georgia in 2004. They made their retirement goals a reality when they moved to Beaufort, SC, in 2021.

A proud graduate of Washington High School, he was Drum Major of the marching band and captain of the swim team — a rare combination of rhythm and athleticism. Mark cultivated a core group of friends with whom he remained close until his death. He later attended the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and earned his MBA from Trinity College & University.

Professionally, he was a Sales Jedi — a master of the pitch, the process, and the people. His career spanned sales operations, executive coaching, training, enablement, and channel design. He won multiple high-performer awards. He was passionate about making an impact, mentoring others, and demonstrating that business could be both smart and human.

Music wasn’t just a hobby — it was his heartbeat. He played guitar, wrote songs, and performed in bands throughout his life. A little bit of Rock and Roll, a little bit of R&B and soul, Mark was a natural entertainer. A proud member of the Recording Academy, one of his crowning achievements was attending the Grammy Awards (and yes, he looked great in a tux).

He was also an enthusiastic foodie, a wine snob (his words), a coffee aficionado, and an unwavering Green Bay Packers fan — win or lose.

He is preceded in death by his father, Benard, and mother, LaVerne Doornbosch, and his brother, David Robertson. He is survived by his loving wife, Liz Doornbosch, his children, Lisa (Alvin) Williams and Marcus Doornbosch, and grandson Hayden Williams, who inherited his charm and booty chin. He was a loving son and brother, a devoted uncle, a loyal friend, and a generous mentor to many. His humor, wisdom, and warmth will echo in every story told, every song played, and every well-made cup of coffee.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MusicCares (https://www.musicares.org/donations), or the family encourages you to turn up your favorite song, enjoy a good meal, and raise a glass to a life well-lived.
