Dr. Alan M. Shlimovitz

Passed away on March 2nd, 2020 at the age of 78.

 

Son of Irene and Lewis Shlimovitz, of blessed memory. Beloved husband of the late Fay Shlimovitz (nee Ghingis-Robinson) and loving companion of Susan Marcus (nee Becker). Cherished father of Anne (Tim Schneider) Shlimovitz, Dr. Cary (Aviva) Shlimovitz, Paul Amitai and Rabbi Ben (Dorothy Hager) Shlimovitz. Proud grandfather of Ariana, Eli and Sophie Shlimovitz; Aiden Schneider and Rui Amitai. Dear brother of Gary (Ruth) Shlimovitz and brother-in-law of Alice (Abby) Lev. Further survived by Susan’s children: Debra (Michael) Watton, Dr. Mindy (Dr. Peter) Graskamp and Jodi (Steve) Weber; grandchildren: Melissa, Jake, Erin, Sam, Maddie, Jack and Spencer; and many dear friends.

Alan Shlimovitz was born in Milwaukee in 1941, and grew up on the city’s West Side. He graduated from Washington High School and University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. Alan continued his studies at Marquette University Dental School where he became a member of the Alpha Omega dental fraternity, for which he later served as chapter president. Alan served as a captain in the US Army, including one year in Vietnam. He practiced dentistry for over forty years, and regularly volunteered his expertise to help those in need in the Jewish community.

Alan was dedicated to personal knowledge and enrichment, studying Torah, practicing tai chi, and playing saxophone for many years in community concert bands. His love of music extended to his work as a board member of Jewish music and arts organization, Ruach. Alan was also a longtime member of Anshe Sfard Kehillat Torah synagogue.
