Philip Pierre Picard Notice

Picard, Philip Pierre Died peacefully Jan. 29, 2009, at the VA Hospital, in Tomah, WI. Born July 3, 1934, in Milwaukee. Cherished son, husband, father, brother and friend, Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Ann Picard (Erickson), whom he married in 1957. He is survived by their children, Jeff (Geri), Andrea Picard Walters (Keith); and grandchildren, Leslie and Greg Picard, and Bennett and Aidan Walters. Phil was the youngest of three children born to the late Clarence and Myrtle (Schufelt) Picard. He was preceded in death by his sister, Collette (the late Edward) Seitz. He is survived by his brother, Gene (Jacquie). Phil lived in the moment with passion and laughter, lifting all who knew him with his infectious joy of life. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 at Fort MacArthur, California and graduated in 1958, from Layton School of Art, Milwaukee. In 1965 Phil, along with Les Didier, founded Picard Didier Advertising Art and Design. He was an accomplished illustrator and designer, but especially excelled as a sculptor. The highlight of his career was a 1977 sculpture commission, "Christ the Healer," for Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. This 13-scene, steel and marble work took 3 years to complete. Phil lived in Germantown from 1962-1982. He enjoyed reading, fishing, tennis, biking, running and travel. He was active in his church. Spending time with his family was Phil's greatest joy. In 1982 Phil suffered a brain injury in a bike accident and was lovingly cared for at the VA Hospital for the remainder of his life. We have missed him dearly since his accident, but will be inspired by his memory forever. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on March 5, 2009, with reception and meal to follow at Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 6031 W. Chapel Hill Road, Mequon, Wisconsin.
