Timothy Staats (1968)

Lived near 56th and Locust while attending Washington HS.  Drafted into Army, June 1941 six months prior to Pearl Harbor.  Honorably discharged October 1945.  Served as an assistant mortar squad leader with L Company, 37th Infantry Regiment in the Aleutian Island Campaign from June ,1942 - January, 1945.  Was in Dutch Harbor in June, 1942 when it was attacked by the Japanese.  Served balance of tour at Ft. Benning, Georgia with the 37th as a supply clerk.  Hired by the Milwaukee US Post Office following his discharge where he worked for the rest of his life.  Sorted mail and was a counter clerk at the main downtown location (Federal Courthouse), Wauwatosa offfice and then at 55th and Center Street.  Died May 7, 1976, age 57, from a heart attack at a bus stop while waiting to go work.   Buried at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

 

Wife:  Hazel (deceased).  Two sons:  Tom and Tim.  Both graduates of  Washingon High School.
