Arnold Polzin - Class Of 1951 VIEW PROFILE

Polzin, Arnold Arnold H. Polzin, 84, passed away on April 22, 2016. Born Jan. 28, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wis., he and his wife, Beverly, were married in 1954 after he served in the U.S. Army. His infantry unit completed a tour of duty in Korea during the Korean War, and he left the service with the rank of sergeant. His career with the Wisconsin Telephone Co., later Wisconsin Bell, began in 1951 in the supply department. Recognized for his abilities and dedication, he reached the position of district manager before retiring in 1990 with 39 years of service. Throughout those years and his retirement, he raised a family, volunteered in the community and enjoyed playing and watching sports. He was dedicated to his children, always finding time to attend their school and sports events, or simply playing with them at home. His volunteer efforts included activities for the Telephone Pioneers, coaching youth sports, serving the churches he belonged to and assisting other community organizations and his homeowners' association. His love of sports led him to playing in numerous softball, football, bowling and golf leagues. That passion extended to professional sports, especially his beloved Green Bay Packers, for which he held season tickets for more than 50 years and attended both the Ice Bowl and Super Bowl XXXI. He also was a two-time champion and cornerstone of his fantasy baseball league for 27 years. He is remembered by family, friends and neighbors as the quintessential handyman, always ready to help with home repair work. If something didn't fit or work just right, everyone knew he could "Arnie it" to make it work. His strong faith was foundational throughout his life, especially at the conclusion as he displayed admirable courage and conviction. Arnie is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Beverly; daughters Kathy Schinner and Rose (John) Riege; sons Larry, Steve (Linda) and Michael (Gail); 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister Shirley Howard; sister-in-law Mary Theis; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Verna Arbeiter, and granddaughter, Julia. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 14, from 9 AM. to 11 AM at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 16000 W. National Ave., New Berlin, Wis., followed by a funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Arnie's memory may be made to: Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc., 10000 W.
