Judith Marie (Judy) La Porte (Brzoska) - Class Of 1961

Born May 11, 1943 in Milwaukee, WI to Phillip and Maxine (Fiedrick) LaPorte, Judy graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee. In 1961 she obtained her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene from Marquette University where she later earned her B.A. She worked in private practice in Madison, WI and later taught Dental Hygiene at Madison Area Technical College while attending the University of Wisconsin to obtain an M.A. in Educational Administration.

On May 12, 1973 she married David William Brzoska of Wilmington, DE and they moved to Springfield, OH where Judy became the founder and first chairperson of the Dental Hygiene program at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. The program was accredited in record time and has since provided the region with over 700 Dental Hygienists. In 1976 they left Ohio and took over the dental practice of Dr. C. J. Alexander in Lawrence, KS, where they worked together until their retirement to Naples, FL in 2003.

Judy always had a love for the theater and was active in the Madison Community Theater. In Lawrence, she helped found the Friends of the Kansas University Theater and in Naples she was an ardent supporter and first season ticket holder of The Theater Zone.

Her keen interest in travel, nature and photography, combined with her leadership and organizational skills, led to her direction of over 20 adventure tours and small boat cruises from the Caribbean to South Africa to Peru, Brazil, Greece, Bali and Cambodia. In Lawrence, KS, she led pilgrimages for the parishioners of St. John's Church to Mexico, Ireland and Italy. In Naples she quickly became involved in committees in the Island Walk Community and served as Historian of the Naples Garden Club.

Judy is survived by her husband, David of Naples; her brother and sister-inlaw, Tom and Juli LaPorte of Paradise Valley, AZ.; her brother-in-law and sisterin-law, John and Linda Brzoska; her nieces, Olivia, Christina, and Natalie LaPorte; and nephews, Tommy LaPorte, and Mark and Daniel Brzoska.
