Susan Beck Corbett, 81 of Belmont, NC (and most recently Loveland, CO) died peacefully on February 2nd, 2024.

Sue was born October 24th, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to loving parents, Wilbert and Helen Beck. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents Wilbert and Helen; brother James Beck; grandchildren Addison Hart and Cory Hart; nephew Steve Beck.

She is survived by her son, Carl Burgardt and wife Sara of Timnath, CO; stepdaughter Connie Corbett Long and her husband Kirk of Waynesville, NC; stepdaughter Kathi Corbett Hallman and her husband Mark of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren Ian Burgardt of Timnath, CO, Taylor Wilson of Chesnee, SC, Maggie Hart of Simpsonville, SC, and Emily Long of Sylva, NC; sisters-in-law Marilyn Beck of St. Germaine, WI, and Margaret Westmoreland of Emerald Isle, NC; niece, Kristin Martin and husband Sean of Middleton, WI.

A memorial service will be held in the multi-purpose room of the main building at River Landing at Sandy Ridge in High Point ,NC on June 14th, 2024 at 11am. The service will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Jeff Patterson of Wesley Memorial in High Point, NC. A private grave site service for the family will be held at Bowman Rector Cemetery, Marshall, NC with arrangements by Madison Funeral Home, Marshall, NC.

Sue was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she attended Washington High School participating in a plethora of clubs. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for undergraduate and East Carolina University for her master’s degree.

Sue spent the second half of her life in North Carolina where she started her teaching in the Fort Bragg schools during which she established a circle of friends that she held until the day of her passing. She loved teaching but found her true calling following in her father’s footsteps as a librarian in Fayetteville, NC. She also took on county-wide roles as a media coordinator and supervisor in the Cumberland and Pitt county school systems. She ended her career as a librarian at Ashbrook High School in Gastonia, NC.

Sue immensely enjoyed her retirement life with her husband on Lake Wylie, NC. Her favorite pastimes were reading, shopping, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. She adored being a dog mother as well (most often in possession of at least two golden retrievers).

Sue expressed herself in the world through kindness and empathy. She was always a peacemaker in any tense situation. Sue was a doting mother who showed her son how much love is possible from a parent to a child. She is loved and missed.
