Tribute

On Thursday, December 3, 2020, Dorothy Mae Glueckstein (nee Havey), loving wife and mother of ten children passed away at the age of 102.

Dorothy was born on December 21, 1917, to John and Elizabeth (Justin) Havey. She graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee, WI.  After graduation she worked as a telephone operator for the Wisconsin Telephone Company.

On August 31, 1940 she married Henry Glueckstein at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Milwaukee, WI. Henry preceded her in death on August 30, 1979.

Dorothy was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.   She loved spending time with her family especially Sunday afternoons when her parents visited.   Holidays were always special events. Dorothy hosted several Thanksgivings and Easter Sundays sit down dinners for 26 family members.  Christmas was always special.   Everyone came to Grandmas for Christmas Eve, even Santa!  She loved reading, playing cards and working crossword puzzles. In her younger years she loved to bowl.  She perfected the art of freezing and canning the produce from the garden every summer.She enjoyed taking her friends shopping and was their taxi service. When Henry was alive they loved traveling with friends around the USA especially to see the Fall colors. They had monthly card club get-togethers.  Henry and Dorothy also loved going out for Friday fish fries with friends.

Dorothy was a founding and life long member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Brookfield, WI.  She was a member of Christian Mothers Society and their bowling league and always active in several school and Church activities.

Dorothy lived independently in her Brookfield home until the age of 97.  She then resided at St. Camillus, still playing cards and Bingo and winning! Dorothy’s family is very grateful for the care and compassion given to her by the caregivers at St. Camillus. 

Survivors include two sons; Henry (Judy) Glueckstein, and James (Brenda) Glueckstein, four daughters; Sister Mary Elizabeth Glueckstein OSF, Kathryn  (Dr. John) Peri, Margaret (Dr. Herbert) Kuehnemann, Janet  (Paul) Boemer, Thirteen Grand Children: Dr. Jon  (Pamela) Glueckstein, Jennifer Glueckstein, Elizabeth(Steven) Glueckstein, Teresa (Dean) Kane, John (Nicole) Peri, Joseph (Melissa) Peri, Elaine  Kuehnemann, Kevin  Kuehnemann, Christina Boemer,  Anna  Boemer,  Adam Glueckstein,  Aaron  Glueckstein, Ian Glueckstein. Three Great grandchildren: Michael (Meghan) Glueckstein, Thomas Peri and Benjamin Peri.  One sister Betty Lou Ganey. She is further survived by many nephews and nieces.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four sons; Leo, Thomas, William and Daniel; three brothers John, Robert and Raymond.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 14, 2020, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 1755 N. Calhoun Road, Brookfield, WI.  A private burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Elm Grove WI.

The Family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 - 10:45 until the time of services at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
