Michael Pearson “Mike” Cocking
Michael Cocking passed away on Sunday February 11, 2024 at the age of 78. Mike was born in Milwaukee on October 2, 1945, the son of Frank and Jane (nee Nicholson) Cocking. After graduating from Washington High School, he attended the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, where he met his future wife, Kathleen Nagy, played baseball for the Panthers, and was named Captain of the baseball team. Mike transferred to the University of Wisconsin- Madison to graduate with a mechanical engineering degree. After graduation, he was accepted to Officer Candidate School with the United States Marine Corps. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and attended Naval Flight School.
On June 26, 1971, Mike and Kathy were united in marriage at Mother of Good Counsel Parish in Milwaukee. The couple lived in Hawaii for 3 years while Mike was stationed in Honolulu, serving his country flying the Phantom F-4. Returning to Wisconsin, the couple settled in Wauwatosa before moving to Cedarburg in 1981 where they raised their three daughters, Colleen, Meghan, and Heather. Mike was in manufacturing sales most of his career, eventually owning a manufacturing company in Brookfield. The company was purchased and he continued to work for them until his retirement.
Mike and Kathy were engaged community members, serving as volunteers and board members, including the Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund. Mike actively supported the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, believing “Every Day is A Bonus”. He was lovingly known as “Seanpa” to his seven grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughters, Colleen (Anthony) Polston of Cedarburg, Meghan (Timothy) Posnanski of Whitefish Bay, and Heather Cocking of Cedarburg; grandchildren: Michael, Edith, Ainsley, Jack, Mariel, Norah, and James; sister: Nancy Foti, along with other relatives and many friends both near and far. Mike was preceded in death by his wife: Kathy; parents: Frank Cocking and Jane Nicholson Cocking; and brother-in-law: Domenic Foti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church-North, 1375 Covered Bridge Rd in Cedarburg. The presentation of Military Honors will follow the Mass. The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday at the CHURCH from 10:30-12:15PM. Following the mass, Mike will be laid to rest next to his wife Kathy at Resurrection Cemetery in Mequon.
