March 1, 1946 - March 24, 2024
Helen Dixon, a strong, passionate, kind, and fiercely loyal mother and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of family on March 24th, 2024. Helen was admired and respected during her long and successful career. She was deeply committed to leading, mentoring, and lifting others. A devoted mother and grandmother, Helen will be remembered for her strength and love of family.
Helen was the beloved mother of Thomas “Griff” Dixon and Megan Dixon (Rich Tupta), loving grandmother of Jackson and Jillian Tupta, dear sister of William (Sandra) Griffith and James (Mary) Griffith, and proud aunt of John (Peggy) Griffith and David (Dana) Griffith.
Helen was born in Cuba City, WI to Rev. David J. Griffith and Mary Griffith (nee Bowman) on March 1, 1946. She grew up in Milwaukee in the Sherman Park neighborhood where her father was the pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was a doting big sister to brother Jim and loving little sister to brother Bill. Helen’s favorite childhood memories included summers at Dunham Lake with family.
In 1973, Helen received her bachelor’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in social work and political science. In the 1970’s, she was director of social services for the St. Francis Children’s Center at the Easter Seal Society of Milwaukee. Helen then moved into public relations, working at two cable television firms. Helen later set up her own business before opening the Milwaukee office of Miller & Schroeder Financial. In 1990, she moved to Robert W. Baird & Co. She left her position as first vice president at Robert W. Baird & Co. in 1993, when she was named Midwest regional administrator for the Small Business Administration. Her primary goal was getting business loans to women and minorities. She took the job as an opportunity to give something back to her community, serve her country, and increase opportunities for small business people. Helen then decided to go after a dream of starting her own business and launched Dixon & Co. in 1995, which provided consulting services to small businesses in finance and project management.
In addition to her work, Helen was active in Democratic party politics and was a delegate to the 1988 and 1992 conventions. She also served key roles as finance co-chair in the campaigns of Bill Clinton and Michael Dukakis.
Helen’s dedication to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family. Helen raised two children, Megan and Griff, whom she cherished above all else. She was a loving and loyal daughter, mother, family member, and friend. She was immensely proud of her “small but mighty” family. Helen was always there to offer love, support, and guidance to her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Helen will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. https://www.northshorefuneral.com/obituaries/Helen-Dixon-21/#!/Obituary
