Mahringer, Eric "Rick"

Eric "Rick" B. Mahringer, age 69, of Marshfield passed away Thursday January 2, 2014 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield with his wife Penny and sister Lynn at his bedside. His death followed an 11 month courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday January 11, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Marshfield. Rev Joel Deaner-Rogers will officiate. A visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday January 10, 2014 at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield and again on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the church in Marshfield.

Rick was born February 8, 1944 to Lt. Erich Mahringer and Dora (Kempinen) Harris in Milwaukee, WI. He graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee and went on to receive his undergraduate (BS) degree in forestry from Michigan Technological University in 1966, then earned his graduate degree (MS) in 1969. He worked as a forester for the Department of Natural Resources for 10 years then worked for Menominee Tribal Enterprises, and later was a private consulting forester. In 1996 at age 52, Rick met the love of his life, Penny Maly (Reber). They were married June 13, 1998 in Marshfield.

Rick was a member of Wisconsin Consulting Foresters and Michigan Tech Alumni Association. He was one of the original cast members in the Last Supper reenactment at Wesley United Methodist Church, acting as Simon. Rick enjoyed hunting deer, rabbits with his beloved beagles, Boomer and Tugger; and he hunted antelope in Wyoming. He also enjoyed woodworking, most recently winning best in show for his wooden airplane at the 2013 Central Wisconsin State Fair. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewers fan, going to Arizona two years for Brewers training camp. With wife Penny, Rick served the Lord through various church mission trips, including to Livingston MT and Joplin MO. 

Rick is survived by his wife, Penny, his mother, Dora Harris, his mother-in-law, Lavern Reber, his step-son: Kent (Laura) Maly and their children, Angelina and Alexander, his brother, Rev Scott (Karen) Harris, his sister, Lynn (David Kreibich) Harris, sister-in-law, Susan (Bill) Hansen, his cousins: John, Dean, Karen, and Ben; and his nephews: Matthew and Andrew; and nieces: JiLan, MeiMeng, Elizabeth (Juan Serna) Harris and their daughter, Chloe, and Amanda (Rich) Hahn and their children, Haven and Landon.

Eric was preceded in death by his father, who died before he was born, his step-father, Willard Harris, his step-son, Andrew Maly and step-grandson, Christopher Maly.

In lieu of flowers memorials will be directed towards Wesley United Methodist Church of Marshfield and House of the Dove.
