Graduated UW - Madison in 1966; graduated medical school UW-Madison in 1971 including year in Department of Genetics, UW-Madison. For past 40 years have been continuing work started in Genetics Department; Medical Residency at Dartmouth; Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pathology (Blood Bank); Working for U.S. Navy in medical research and development; retired as Navy Captain in 2005 and currently work for the Navy as a civilian. Research in clinical and laboratory "marrow" transplantation and transplantation genetics and developed areas of science and technology for genetic matching and DNA based testing. Continue to play a key role, starting in 1985, developing the National Marrow Donor Program and the Department of Defense program for volunteer marrow transplant donors as well as transplant research; the C. W. Bill Young Marrow Donor Recruitment and Research Program.
In 2016, the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Alumni quarterly published an article on Marlene and I briefly describing my work and financial contributions Marlene and I have been making to support UW graduate students in the School of Medicine, Law School (a patient outreach program), and School of Education. Marlene plays a very active role in UW-Madison committees for the UW Foundation and School of Education.
