Bernice Nickolaisen (Kwan) - Class Of 1955

Bernice Edith Kwan, born Bernice Edith Nickolaisen on January 9, 1937, in Milwaukee, WI, passed away on May 22, 2024, in Loveland, CO at the age of 87.

Bernice was a graduate of Washington High School and Milwaukee-Downer College. She and her husband, Dr. Francis Kwan, were long-time residents of Rapid City, SD before retiring to Loveland, CO. She was a devoted member of the Bahai community.

She was known for her feisty and outspoken nature, as well as her cultured and liberal views. Bernice was a proud member of the Sons of Norway and had a deep love for dogs.

Bernice is survived by her loving husband, Francis P. Kwan of Loveland, CO and her children James E. Kwan, Alexander Kwan, Arden Kwan, Russell Kwan, and Mark Kwan, her grandchildren Grace Harrison, Lauren Carlesen, Helen Wick, Mitchell Kwan, and James F. Kwan, and her great-grandchild Frances Harrison. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Vickers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olav Nickolaisen and Louise Kucik Nickolaisen, and her beloved nephew, Earl Cox.

In honoring Bernice's wishes, no memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Sons of Norway, AAUW, or your local animal shelter.

Bernice Edith Kwan will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
