Obituaries in Milwaukee, WI | Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Helen went to her heavenly home on December 24, 2022. She was born in Little Falls, New York 86 years ago, raised in Milwaukee, graduated from Washington High School and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. There she met her future husband, Norman Buck (best blind date ever). They were married at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in January of 1959. They resided in Brookfield, raising their family, for over 60 years.

She was the dear mother of twins Norine (Terry) Zimdars and Lauren (Mike) Van Den Heuvel. Jonathan Buck completed the family.

She was the fond grandmother of twins Aaron and Nathan Zimdars and their brother Seth. Her California granddaughters are Madison, Marina, and Payton Buck. Also part of the family is Bridget Van Den Heuvel and great granddaughter Kinsie Hanson. She is survived by her brother-in-law Wayne (Gloria) Buck, two nephews Scott and Trent Buck and their families and other relatives and friends.

She is pre-deceased by her parents Frederick and Mabel (Wetterau) Fruhling and adoptive mother Myrtle (Eberhardt/Masch) Fruhling. Also pre-deceased by her in-laws Donald and Mildred (Hastings) Buck.

Helen’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending many track and cross country meets, going to band concerts, etc. Family vacations were always fun. Bucks and Badger games, in particular were looked forward to. Helen enjoyed reading mystery novels, doing hand crafts, gardening, cooking and being a member of the Waukesha County Home Economics Grads club. She and Norm enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives in Maine, Vermont, Florida, and California. There were also a few visits to her family in Germany. Along the way, many, many photos were taken, later to be put in books. After 75 years the family is glad to put her camera to rest.

A highlight of her life was enjoying 18 years spent with her first and last pet, Shadow. (Childhood goldfish don’t count)

Norm & Helen were quite involved in church activities in the last 60 years, including many Bible classes. In recent years she enjoyed being a member of the Our Redeemer book club.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 10025 W. North Avenue. Visitation from 9-11AM followed by the service at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
