In Memory

Marlene Crupi (Widen) - Class Of 1951

THANK YOU, MARLENE CRUPI WIDEN, WHS 1951

As we celebrate more than 30 years of our annual reunion event, we would like to pay tribute to our “founder of the feast,” Marlene Crupi Widen. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, a group of WHS women alumnae held an annual Valentine Luncheon, a social gathering to reconnect with old friends and share memories. The event was publicized only through those who already knew or found out about it. Marlene, then WHSASF president, assumed the role of Valentine Luncheon chair in 1991 and announced that future events and money raised from the luncheon would benefit the Foundation and future scholarships. The first WHSASF luncheon was held in 1992, and her guidance and structure has enabled us to successfully continue it for all these years. Thank you, Marlene, for your passion, effort, and success in establishing an event that is both a fundraiser for our future citizens and a reconnection to our past.

Marlene was a wonderful, dear friend.  She was always there to help and give advice and just to have a laugh.  She saw more in me than I did and encouraged me in everything I've done.  She and Len are missed on the Alumni Board and with everything involving Washington High School and just being good friends.  They were always there for you.  Now they are together.
