Esther Rothman (Leno) - Class Of 1940

Leno, Esther Rothman Esther Leno died peacefully on February 21, 2013, at her home in Boca Raton, Florida, surrounded by her beloved husband of nearly 66 years and her three loving children. She was 91 years old. The cause was complications from Alzheimer's. Essie was born on December 11, 1921, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Molly Rothman and the adored sister of Leo, Morris, and Daniel Rothman, all of whom predeceased her. She graduated from Washington High School on the West Side of Milwaukee and worked as a top-rate legal secretary. In June 1947 Essie married Manny Leno. Together they built his business (Paymaster Associates), traveled the world, and enjoyed an active social life. She was a founding member of Congregation Shalom and in her later years was active in the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. Above all, Essie was devoted to her family, all of whom cherished her magnificent being. She was a championship golfer and a leader of ladies' golf programs in both Milwaukee and Boca Raton. She was an ace card player, a crossword puzzle whiz, and a star knitter (producing beautiful sweaters overnight). She is remembered for her great capacity for friendship, her caring heart and radiant smile, and her quick intellect. Her grateful family remembers her particularly for her remarkable joy in living, even through the challenges of Alzheimer's disease. Esther is survived by her devoted husband Manny, her three children Margie, Mark, and Janet (Peter Harrold) Leno, her sister-in-law Ruth Rozran, her dear nieces and nephews in California, Wisconsin, and Arizona and her tireless care-giver, Elynn Riessinger. Graveside services will be held at Mound Zion Cemetery, 14510 W. North Ave., Brookfield, on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions to either USAgainst Alzheimer's or the Alzheimer's Association would be greatly appreciated.
