Valeria Frances Peterson

(nee Wendt) Headed towards the Rainbow Bridge February 24, 2021 at the age of 73 after a long battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Dennis of 52 years. Loving mother of Gail (Steven) Pipke and David (Deborah). Proud grandma of Joshua, Jacob, and many fur grandchildren. Dear sister of Karren Wendt and Carl (the late Linda) and sister-in-law of James (Betty) Irving. Preceded in death by her parents Chester and Edna Wendt, parents-in-law Edwin and Juliana Peterson, sister-in-law Lurlene, and nephew Jacob Reill-Wendt.

Valeria will be missed by her dear friends Holly and Greg Schlenvogt, Jane Soulier, CeCe and Bob Wells, Andrea Jackson and DeMaine Milbach, and the Jackson family. Special acknowledgment to Lindsay, David, and “Boo” Charney. Boo gave Valeria her last doggie kisses in this world, and helped send her off over the Rainbow Bridge.

Valeria loved dogs. She opened her home to many furry friends and gained a lot of human friends along the way. She was an amazing quilter, belonging to several local Quilt Guilds. She regularly sent care packages to the soldiers overseas through the Common Threads Quilt Guild. She was a dedicated wife and mother, with all the hats that came with- chauffeur, cook, teacher, homemaker. She will be dearly missed.

A special thank you to everyone at the Aurora Grafton Cancer Center for their exceptional care these past 10+ years. She considered you all a part of the family. Additionally, we would like to thank all the wonderful Nurses and Doctors that took care of Valeria in her final weeks at Columbia St. Mary’s-Ozaukee. The ICU and Lawlis Family Hospice have an amazing and compassionate team of Nurses and Doctors.

Valeria was a significant supporter of the Mequon Robotics League, HHS Robotics, Cub Scout Pack 3852, Boy Scout Troop 852; all of which her son and grandchildren were involved with.

Valeria also helped with medical treatments for many a dog with her generous donations to Shar-Pei Savers, a rescue that her daughter is active in.

Some of Valeria’s most cherished possessions were the American Flag that was flown over the Kirkuk Regional Air Base, Iraq, in her honor in 2010. In 2014, Valeria received the title of Honorary Defender for her sustained superior support of men and women of the United States Air Force Security Forces. She also received numerous military coins that she proudly displayed.

Donations in Valeria’s name may be forwarded to the HHS Robotics at Homestead High School, 5000 W. Mequon Road, Mequon, WI 53092.

A celebration of Valeria’s life will be held at a later date when we can gather outside under the sun. Of course, dogs will be welcome. As well as well-behaved owners.
