Anthony Darrell Sartin

Milwaukee - Anthony Darrell Sartin peacefully passed away due to COVID-19 Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at the age of 64. Affectionately known as Tony, he was the firstborn of Ethelen McClain Sartin and the late Obbie Sartin Jr., born October 14, 1955. He grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age, being baptized by his grandfather, Rev. Obie Sartin Sr. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Tony was active in Sunday school, the local Boy Scouts, and youth activities of his church.

Tony attended schools in Milwaukee Public Schools including Washington Irving, Garden Homes, and Peckham Junior High culminating with graduation from Washington High School. He was an avid sports fan and in high school played varsity baseball and football. One of his favorite pastimes was attending baseball games watching the Milwaukee Braves with his Aunt and Uncle Laverne and Bonnie McClain Ware.

Tony continued the legacy of attending college in the University of Wisconsin-System, attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and University of Wisconsin- Whitewater, earning a BA and MS in Education respectively before teaching children with special needs in the Milwaukee Public Schools. His last teaching assignment was at Happy Hill Elementary School, a Milwaukee Public School.

He met and married the love of his life, Vanessa Lynn Duncan, January 12, 1987, and to their union two children were born, Antoinette and Monique, and he raised her daughter Charita Adams. Together they united with the Greater Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Victor Davis, where Tony served as a Deacon before becoming ill in 2001.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife Vanessa, father Obbie Jr., and grandparents, Rev. Obie and Synovia Sartin Sr., and Buffus and Brookie McClain.

He leaves to mourn two daughters, Monique and Antionette Sartin, a grandson, Armani Anthony Sartin, stepdaughter Charita Adams, two sisters, Renee Sartin (Lawrence) Kirby, Marla; sisters-in-law Debra White, Lucille, Barbara and Marla Duncan, brothers-in-law James and Darryl (Bonita) Duncan, Shondra (Kevin) Words, and his favorite Aunt Bonnie J. Ware, nieces and nephews and a host of beloved relatives and friends.

A private visitation will be held Wednesday, May 6th, 2020, followed by internment at Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Leon L. Williamson Funeral Home, 2157 N. 12th Street, Milwaukee, WI, 53305.
