CAMBRIDGE — Roger L. Kelly, 79, of Cambridge, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014, after a short hospital stay.

Roger was born on April 18, 1935, in Milwaukee, the son of Elmer and Elvira Kelly.

He graduated from the Layton School of Art in 1959 with a bachelor of fine arts in industrial design, and enjoyed a long career in the field, working for Jack Collins Design in Milwaukee and Ecko Housewares in Franklin Park, Ill., before retiring in 1999 from Presto Industries in Eau Claire.

Roger also studied architecture at the University of Minnesota, which he put to good use helping family and friends with design and remodeling projects over the years. He designed many homes in the area, including his own retirement home at his beloved Lake Ripley.

“The lake” was the most special place for Roger, where he spent countless hours enjoying boating, sailing, and waterskiing with family and friends. Roger was a great conversationalist who made everyone feel welcome to sit and share a story or go for a spin around the lake in his boat.

Roger is survived by his three daughters, Erin Kelly Dorn (David) of Cambridge, Karin Kelly Matson (Randy Geitner) of Fort Atkinson and Lauren Kelly (Timothy Woods) of Madison; grandsons, Ryan and Corey Viola; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Aliyah Viola; close family friends, Scott Matson and Joan Arendt; and numerous friends and relatives.

A visitation to remember and celebrate Roger’s life will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at the Nitardy Funeral Home, 208 N. Park St. in Cambridge, with a memorial service at 4 p.m.
