Obituary for Vernon "Vern" Salzbrenner

Found peace Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the age of 88. Vern was born May 7, 1929 in Milwaukee. He graduated Washington High School in 1947 and spent the majority of his career with Milwaukee County. Beloved husband of Lois (nee Tingley). Dear father of Warren (Lisa) Salzbrenner, Karen (Jerry) Lemmons and Steven Salzbrenner. Step father of the late John (Nancy), Scott (Jean), Rick (Cheryl) Zimmermann, Mark Zimmermann, Lyn Altenbach, Laura Skendore and Liz Ritt. Brother of Lucille (the late Elmer) Perkins and brother-in-law of Kathleen Flint. Predeceased by mother, Lena Salzbrenner, (nee Heidel), father Florenz, and brother Roland. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. To celebrate his life, a Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2017, at the Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 6 PM, followed by a religious service. Private burial at Wisconsin Memorial Park. Vern was a retiree of Milwaukee County for 30 years. He was Master of West Allis Masonic Lodge #291; and Member of Scottish Rite Valley of Milwaukee, Tripoli Shrine, Long Riders of Tripoli, Norwaukee Shrine Club, and Red Fez. He was Associate Guardian of Job’s Daughters Bethel #19 and Advisor to Doric Chapter Order of DeMolay. Vern was a longtime member of Zion UCC Church, and was captain of the Dartball team for decades. He loved all sports, and golfed into his later years. He enjoyed baseball, basketball, and especially the Green Bay Packers. Vern loved the outdoors and gardening. He was a hobbyist and made model trains and all things with wood. Vern collected trains, stamps, coins, postcards, beer labels, and baseball cards. He shared all his passions with his family and friends and will be deeply missed. The family appreciates any memorials to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Crohns & Colitis Foundation, Tripoli Shrine Transportation Fund or Scimitar Foundation appreciated.
